You are Nothing my friend

While watching a random post match presentation ceremony, I realized one very important point that is “WE ALL ARE NOTHING”. What do I mean by WE? I am talking about the entire human race, right from the president of the United States to any big name you would want to think of. Really, that’s the truth. We often come across such situations when we overemphasize our importance in our own head and then make up statements like, “I am the center of the universe” or “I am everything”. And when things don’t go our way, that many of the time does happen at the first place. We end up complaining to the universe and start to whine about everything. Having such an attitude narrows our thinking and sets us on the downward spiral.

Okay now coming back to the presentation ceremony. What did I hear that made me claim such a thumping statement? Now, everyone would like to see the video. Right?

If I leave the link to the video and end my article here, after watching the video I am sure most of you will take this article as a joke and might simply lose the confidence in such articles that challenge the baseline of human thinking. To make things worse let me also claim that, It’s just an ordinary post match presentation video that you get to see almost after every cricket match. If there is nothing different then why are you irritating us by making such useless statements.

Okay, no more beating around the bush and let’s get to the point straightaway. The player who received the man of the match award was felicitated and after the usual congratulatory note. The presenter went ahead and praised his innings and later asked him, How he was able to play such a magnificent innings? The player smiled for a while, and then went on to say that the conditions were ideal, the bowl was coming on the bat and moreover I was lucky that I had someone on the non-striker to support and that I guess helped me pull off the innings well.

What do you notice?

He played a remarkable innings and when asked how he was able to pull it off, he did not mention a single statement that meant that he had done something extraordinary. In his statement he displayed the highest degree of humility, something which gets tougher as you start climbing up the stairs. All the while, he praised all the other things that we often overlook when we finally achieve something because most of us believe that it is all about us and everything else that happened within the way were bound to happen that way. Anyone who has gone through life must have realized that life is uncertain and no one is sure of what is coming to them in the very next second, minute, day etc. Really, nobody knows that. The best that we can expect is to do the best that we can do with our limited power and leave the rest in the hands of God/nature or whatever you would like to call it. The statement made by the player is merely a reflection of the same. He did whatever was in his control (that means extensive practice) in the best way possible and he simply did not allow the hard work he had put in before the match to get inside his head because he knew it well that no matter how hard he works the results will only come when the time comes and no one has control over it.

I am sure many will still argue. Oh he must have been a saint but the real world does not work like this. To get you back to the real world, this guy is playing for the national team and is one of the best players in the sport and I am sure he must have seen more real world than many of us would ever see in our lifetime.

So, the next time you achieve something in life, instead of filling yourselves with a bucket of ego, try to look back and think of all the other small things that helped you achieve that feat. It can be someone who would have cooked an awesome breakfast for you so that you were able to perform well or just the cab driver who would have helped you reach the place on time. If you start to see things with this approach, you will certainly realize that indeed I am nothing. And if you are able to change your perspective you will surely not stop after your next small success or defeat. Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get, so never settle and keep working hard.

Always give your best in everything, don't expect anything in return. If your fate deserve you will get otherwise just smile, forgive and forget..
